A call in on the weekend from Baghdad has advised that "hush hush" orders were being circulated requiring U.S., British, and Australian troops to organise for "rapid deployment to Israel", and this is not being well received by those involved. They are only too aware of the hatred being built up right across the Middle East, not just in the Muslim mind, by the extensive and in-human bombing and shelling of civilian populations and the infrastructures throughout Lebanon and Palestine. Troops are wondering if they are being sent into Israel to defend it against the impending backlash when the Muslim world reaches its exasperation limit and strikes back. While this is the only report we are so far aware of, and it could be just a rumour , on the basis of past performance, we would not be surprised if it is validated. SUPPOSED TO BE HANDLED VERY "HUSH HUSH"! TROOPS IN BAGHDAD GOT WORD TO ME AND TO OTHERS THAT THEY ARE BEING TOLD TO PREPARE FOR A MAJOR WAR AND THEY ARE NOT HAPPY AT ALL I just had a conversation with the wife of one of my old friends in the army. She had just got off the telephone to him in Baghdad and was quite distraught. Eight hundred of the Australian force of 1,600 in Iraq have been ordered to redeploy to Israel immediately and with all haste. He told her that US and British troops are also packing their kits and being redeployed to Israel. The government has not said a word about it domestically and the whole thing is supposed to be hush hush.
