Lawyer: Edward Snowden may leave airport

Edward Snowden may leave the Moscow airport he’s been holed up in by this Wednesday, his Russian lawyer told Reuters on Monday.
The former National Securtity Agency contractor has applied for asylum in Russia, a process that may take up to three months to process. In the meantime, the NSA leaker will be allowed to pass through customs based on the initial response to his request, Reuters reports.

Snowden has been holed up in the Sheremetyevo airport since he fled Hong Kong on June 23.
Snowden said earlier this month he has accepted all asylum requests offered to him by Latin American countries, but cannot travel to them because the United States and Western European are preventing him from flying over certain countries. In order to apply for asylum in Russia, Snowden has reportedly agreed not to divulge any more U.S. government secrets.
