Very interesting 5-min video of a political rally at UCLA, “in Defense of La Raza”. The Hispanic speaker seems to be a professor at UCLA. He says, “Our enemy is capitalism and imperialism”, and declares to his audience that “we” are the Northern Front in the revolutionary movement that has liberated Venezuela, Bolivia, etc.
At one level, what he says makes a lot of sense. A movement to overcome capitalism and imperialism is a very good idea, particularly in the USA, the heart of the beast. However, in the context of American politics and culture, he makes no sense at all. We need a grassroots movement that includes everyone, not a racially-oriented movement.
The inevitable consequence of his kind of rabble-rousing is to inflame passions against Hispanics, and immigrants in particular. The speaker is no dummy and he knows this. My guess is that he’s an agent provocateur. Notice that this video has been put on youtube by someone called ‘StandWithArizona’, and take a look at the racist comments section. Already the talk is being used as anti-Hispanic propaganda.
