Sayf al-Din Fulayyih Hasan Taha al-Rawi, the former head of Iraq's Republican Guard, "said that his units were decimated by neutron bombs which, he added, neutralize soldiers without damaging buildings and equipment. Al-Rawi also claimed that large 9-ton bombs and phosphoric weapons that can cover large areas were used during the battle," according to a report on the IraqSlogger news blog. About 2,000 elite troops "fought until they were martyred," al-Rawi told Al Jazeera. A neutron bomb would produce deadly radiation within a limited blast site. Here's more information on these devices. And here's a profile of the fugitive soldier, who has a $1 million bounty on his head. (Photo via the Defense Department.)
